40 Italian Protesters Delay War Shipment

LIVORNO, Italy —
About 40 anti-war campaigners at a northern Italian port blocked passage of a train carrying 20 U.S. tanks headed for the Gulf, police said Saturday.
The protesters lay on tracks outside the port city of Livorno on Friday night and delayed the train for about 40 minutes before being removed by police. No injuries were reported and the train later entered the port’s freight yard.
The demonstrators are opposed to Italy’s participation in the U.S.-led coalition fighting Iraq in the Gulf War.
