The University of California Cooperative Extension Common Ground can teach you how to be a “master gardener”--their term for one who has completed a special course of training and is qualified to do help others. Master gardeners may volunteer at local schools, teaching gardening to children, or they may help at community gardens--wherever the gospel of gardening needs preaching.

This year’s instruction begins Friday and continues through May 17, meeting on Fridays, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (There is a $25 fee for materials.) Meetings are held at the Cooperative Extension office, 2615 S. Grand Ave., Suite 400, Los Angeles. To register, call (213) 744-4341.
