THE GULF WAR: The Battle Front : Protests in Europe

Share

Protesters demanding an end to the Gulf War and the withdrawal of Italian forces from the Persian Gulf formed a human chain two miles long at a U.S. naval air station in SIGONELLA, SICILY, police said. About 8,000 people also demonstrated outside the Italian air base at SAN DAMIANO IN NORTHERN ITALY. . . . Hundreds of peace marchers threaded through the Cotswold Hills of SOUTHWESTERN ENGLAND to protest the use of FAIRFORD AIR BASE for Gulf War raids by U.S. B-52 bombers. “I don’t pretend this is a majority movement. It isn’t,” said organizer Bruce Kent of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. Polls indicate overwhelming British support for the military action.
