GM Extends Closure of Van Nuys Plant
General Motors Corp. again extended the temporary closure of its Van Nuys assembly plant, saying the facility will remain closed through this week.
The plant, which employs 3,200, has been closed since Jan. 28 because sluggish sales have left GM saddled with too many cars. The plant is GM’s sole source for the sport Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird.
GM also has announced plans to halve production of the cars beginning April 2, resulting in the indefinite layoff of 850 Van Nuys workers.
