Mazda Recalls 6,680 of Its 1989 Mini-Vans

Mazda Motor Corp. of Irvine has recalled 6,680 of its 1989-model MPV mini-vans for inspection and possible replacement of the brake vacuum hose, which could cause trouble in extremely cold weather.

Mazda spokesman Fred Aikins said that a valve on the hose on vans built between February and May of that year could malfunction if the van is parked in temperatures below 5 degrees Fahrenheit for a long time. The malfunction could cause the power-assist to fail, requiring greater foot pressure to slow or stop the vehicle, he said.
