Talk on Filling Top City Job Delayed

Share

Lacking a quorum at a closed session Tuesday, the Carson City Council postponed until its next meeting in March a discussion of how to recruit a new city administrator.

Thursday, when Public Works Director Ben Minamide’s resignation takes effect, four of the city’s eight top administrative positions will be vacant. They are director of public works, director of parks and recreation, personnel director and city administrator.

Council members say day-to-day management of the city is unaffected but concede that it will be difficult to fill the vacancies quickly. Some council members and city employees say they worry that the city, with its reputation for divisiveness and council meddling in daily operations, will be unable to attract high-caliber replacements.
