THE GULF WAR: The Battle Front : Peace Resolution
The WORLD COUNCIL OF CHURCHES called for an immediate cease-fire in the Gulf War and a Middle East peace conference. “Cease the bombing! Still the missiles! Stop the fighting! Restrain your armies! Negotiate! Trust in the promise of peace!” said a resolution approved by about 1,000 delegates at the end of a two-week conference in Canberra, Australia. It also called for Iraq’s unconditional withdrawal from Kuwait. Anglicans abstained, saying a cease-fire should wait until Iraq pulls out.
