ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The son of Interior Secretary Manuel Lujan Jr. was sentenced Thursday to 20 years in prison for breaking into a woman’s apartment and raping her.
Robert Jeffrey Lujan, 28, of Alexandria, was convicted last month on charges of rape, sodomy and burglary. He was acquitted in Alexandria Circuit Court of using a weapon in connection with those crimes.
During the trial, the defense acknowledged that Lujan had sex with the woman but said it was with her consent.
The jury had recommended a 20-year prison sentence. In agreeing, Judge Alfred D. Swersky recommended that Lujan serve his time at a state prison that has treatment programs for alcohol and drug abuse.
