Universities Cancel Programs in Israel

Both the UC and Cal State overseas programs in Israel have been canceled for the spring semester because of the Persian Gulf War, officials announced.

The semesters were to have begun Sunday.

The estimated 50 UC and six Cal State students, on break since just before the war began, are to return to their home campuses and keep the option of continuing their studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem next academic year.

“Essentially we had to put the safety of our students first. That’s what we are doing,” said Jose Fulco, associate director of UC’s Education Abroad Program.
