Warner Bros. Gives Formosa Cafe a Reprieve

Share

Representatives for Warner Bros. Hollywood Studios announced Friday that the entertainment company has agreed to extend the lease for the venerable Formosa Cafe in West Hollywood for 90 days.

Owners of the restaurant, which has served as a favored film star watering hole for more than 50 years, had been told their lease would be terminated Thursday. However, the proposal by the studio to replace the Formosa with a parking structure drew protests from customers and preservationists.

A group called the Friends of the Formosa has asked the city to save the Formosa and declare it a cultural landmark. The city is expected to make a ruling on that request next month.
