French veteran Carole Merle won a World Cup super-giant slalom at Furano, Japan, in 1 minute 20.66 seconds, edging Edith Thys of Olympic Valley, Calif., by 35-hundredths of a second.

Anja Haas of Austria won the downhill, skiing the 2,326-meter course in 1 minute 22.83 seconds.
