Datametrics’ Earnings Rise Despite Lower Revenues

Datametrics Corp., a Chatsworth maker of printers, tape recorders and other equipment for the military and industrial markets, said its fiscal first-quarter profit rose 26% from a year earlier, to $173,000 from $137,000.
The higher earnings in the quarter ended Jan. 27 came despite a 28% decline in Datametrics’ revenue, to $4.78 million from $6.64 million a year earlier, because customers are delaying orders due to the slowdown in defense spending, the company said.
Datametrics said its profit rose nonetheless because of cost-cutting and a significant reduction in the company’s debt.
