Boeing Sees Need for 9,000 New Planes: On the same day that it delivered its 2,000th 737 jetliner, Boeing Co. predicted a rosy future for itself and the rest of the world’s plane manufacturers. In its annual market outlook--issued as Germany’s Lufthansa accepted its 100th 737--Seattle-based Boeing predicted that the world’s airlines will buy nearly 9,000 aircraft worth $617 billion in the next 15 years. Boeing forecast that airlines will take delivery of an average of $41 billion worth of airplanes each year until 2005, compared to $16 billion a year during the past two decades.
