GM’s Electric Car to Be Made in Michigan: General Motors Corp. confirmed that it will build its Impact electric car at its Reatta Craft Centre in Lansing, Mich. A company spokesman said the auto maker is expected to make a formal announcement Monday or Tuesday. GM’s Van Nuys plant had been considered one of the more likely plants to build the Impact, a small two-seat commuter car powered by lead-acid batteries. GM said Van Nuys would be dedicated to building specialty vehicles after Camaro and Firebird car production is phased out in the early 1990s.
