Pasadena : Appeal on Parole Office
City directors met in closed session last week and directed City Atty. Victor Kaleta to appeal a Jan. 20 Los Angeles Superior Court decision allowing the state to open a parole office downtown.
The directors have fought since 1988 against the office. Last October they sued, asking the court to stop the state from opening an office at 333 E. Walnut St. to serve 1,100 parolees. But Judge William Huff declined to block the office, ruling that the state followed proper procedures and did not violate the California Environmental Quality Act as the city alleged.
The state has already begun asbestos removal to open the office later this month, Kaleta said.
