From the Airwaves to the Waves: After 49 years, veteran radio personality Mel Baldwin--who has been affiliated with KNX Radio (1070 AM) since 1951--is calling it quits. But don’t expect the 66-year old Baldwin, who came out of an earlier retirement to be a co-host on KNX’s “Food News Hour,” to be sitting around in a rocker--or even puttering about the kitchen. An experienced yachtsman, he’s planning to meet friends in Cyprus and sail with them from the Mediterranean to Florida. “I’m going to take a little tape recorder with me, and maybe do a weekend feature once in a while,” Baldwin said.
