SAN CLEMENTE : City Votes to Build Water Pump Station

Share

Continuing its two-year effort to conserve a limited drinking water supply, the City Council recently voted to spend about $40,000 to engineer and build a reclaimed water pump station that would serve the Pacific Golf Club.

The reclaimed water pump station will allow treated water from the San Clemente sewage system to be used for watering the golf course lawns, reducing the city’s reliance on imported water. Reclaimed water has been partially treated by chemicals so it can be used for landscaping, but it is not drinkable, sanitary district officials said.

Under an August, 1990, agreement with golf course developer Arvida/JMB Partners, the city will be reimbursed for a $39,809 bid to build the pump station. Pacific Golf Club, a private golf course, )s located on Avenida La Pata, just east of the Rancho San Clemente residential neighborhood.

Completion of the pump station by John Carollo Engineers is expected by June 1, according to a report by Handan Cirit, the project engineer for the city’s waste water treatment plant expansion. Expansion of the city’s waste water treatment plant on Avenida Pico has been under way since last year.
