DO AS WE SAY: Six mental health experts from Japan are visiting the county this week, checking on how officials here deal with freeing the mentally ill from hospitals. . . . County mental health director Timothy P. Mullins says the Japanese are looking at deinstitutionalizing Japan’s mentally ill. He says the visitors will see “some of our homeless programs, which will drive them crazy. . . . They sure don’t want to let the streets become alternatives” to mental hospitals in their country.
