An automotive center that will offer services such as tire sales and cellular phone installation was approved by the Planning Commission this week.

The commission voted 5 to 0 to allow the 20,000-square-foot project to be built at Madero and Los Alisos boulevards.

The center, owned by Debeikes Investment Co., was approved after the commissioners were satisfied that the project will not produce excessive noise or display large signs. No one opposed the project at a public hearing before the vote.

Representatives of the owner indicated that heavy auto repair shops would not be allowed into the complex. The center will feature shops offering tire sales, brake repair, audio and cellular phone installation and other services and repairs.

“You have to have these type of services available to serve your citizens,” said Clint Sherrod, city planning director. Sherrod said he expects construction to begin in four to five months.
