The queen was out with a pack of her pet dogs near her castle in Windsor when several of the Welsh corgis started fighting. When the queen intervened, one dog bit her left hand; the incident earned her three stitches.

* Forever 5 1/2: He doesn’t look 40. But Dennis the Menace will be honorary mayor of his hometown of Wichita, Kan., this weekend after 40 years in the newspaper business. Mayor Bob Knight is going out of town for the weekend, but he showed how much confidence he has that the city will be still standing on Monday: “Watch out Wichita! I’m outta here!”

* Separation: The District of Columbia’s new non-voting delegate to Congress, Eleanor Holmes Norton, has filed for separation from her husband, Edward. Wags started wondering about the Nortons’ relationship last year after he said the couple had filed no city income tax returns for seven years and she said she had left all their tax work to him.

* Mercy Flight: The world’s largest airplane will bring two children who were victims of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster to the United States for treatment. The six-engine Antonov AN-225 Mriya, a Soviet military cargo plane, is scheduled to arrive Thursday. The two unnamed children are 10 and 12 years old.
