A neighborhood charity group from South-Central Los Angeles is donating $1,000 to a police memorial fund in honor of Officer Tina Kerbrat, the first policewoman slain in the history of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The 77th Street Area Police Clergy Council was to present the check to the Los Angeles Police Memorial Foundation during a meeting Wednesday night at Angeles Mesa School, Sgt. Julio Nunez said.

Nunez said the group raises money for food, scholarships and athletic activities for needy families in the neighborhood, but decided to contribute to the memorial fund for Kerbrat’s husband and two young children.

Kerbrat, 34, was fatally shot Feb. 11 while on duty in Sun Valley. Just four months out of the Police Academy, she was assigned to the North Hollywood Division.
