High Life A WEEKLY FORUM FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS : San Clemente Teen Named Vocal Finalist

Trisha Rapier of San Clemente, who attends San Clemente High School, was recently named a pop/comedy vocal finalist for the third annual Spotlight Awards.

The event, produced by the Los Angeles Music Center education division and entertainment industry professionals, attracted nearly 300 teen-agers from Southern California who competed for scholarships in six performance categories.

Rapier was the latest Orange County finalist selected. The other finalists are Christina Summer Gibbs of Newport Beach (Pathfinders High School) and Lisa Innes of Fountain Valley (Fountain Valley High) in ballet; Mariah Hyde of Anaheim (Los Alamitos High) in modern dance, and Kathy Koo-Young Kim of Irvine (Irvine High) in classical instrumental music.

The competition will culminate with performances by the 12 finalists on stage at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles on March 18. The winners will receive $5,000 scholarships; the runners-up will get $2,500 scholarships.

Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. performance and dinner are $150. In addition, 2,500 tickets will be donated to schools to enable parents and peers to attend. For more information, call (213) 972-7567.

The Key Clubs of the Santa Ana Unified School District will hold a food drive from Monday through March 22 for the Food Distribution Center. Anyone interested in making a donation can do so at the following high schools: Century (1401 S. Grand Ave.), Saddleback (2802 S. Flower St.), Santa Ana (520 W. Walnut St.) and Valley (1801 S. Greenville Ave.).
