John Delaura’s Silver Bullet drifted through the finish line at 7:19 a.m. Thursday, winning the Newport Harbor Yacht Club’s race to Cabo San Lucas.
Light winds held the winner’s time for the 790 nautical mile course off 21 3/4 hours from the record 2 days 22 hours 2 minutes. Handicap class winners were Silver Bullet in IOR-A, Barbara C. Colville’s Nelson/Marek 55 Strider in IOR-B, Jack Woodhull’s Reichel/Pugh 42 Persephone in IOR-C, Kirk Wilson’s 67-foot Merlin in International Measurement System-A and Mick Shlens’ Express 37 Blade Runner in IMS-B.
