COUNTYWIDE : 2 Men Sought in Bank Robberies

Share

FBI authorities in Ventura County are hoping that photographs taken of two suspected bank robbers by bank surveillance cameras will help lead to their arrests.

The Oxnard and Simi Valley robberies took place within days of each other in late January, Gary G. Auer, supervisory special agent, said.

In the Oxnard incident, a man described as being in his late 30s robbed the Security Pacific Bank branch at 455 South A St. at 2 p.m. Jan. 22, Auer said. The man was wearing sunglasses and a green, golf-style hat, he said. Auer said the suspect gave a note to the teller asking for an unspecified amount of money. No weapon was displayed.

The second robbery occurred Jan. 28 at the Bank of America branch at 5821 Los Angeles Ave. in Simi Valley, Auer said. The suspect, a man of about 25, walked into the bank at 1:30 p.m. and showed a handgun to a teller, he said. Auer said the suspect told the teller that the money was not for drugs.

Neither suspect is thought to be connected with other Southern California bank robberies, Auer said.

Seven banks in Ventura County have been robbed since January, 1991, up from five during the same period last year, Auer said. The seven robberies remain unsolved, he said.
