2 Western Banks Seek Presence in Kuwait: At least two Western banks have approached the Kuwait central bank about establishing a presence in the war-ravaged country. Citibank of New York has held talks with various Kuwaitis regarding banking services, sources close to the bank said. The sources declined to be identified because the talks are so sensitive. Also seeking Kuwaiti banking business is Standard Chartered PLC of London. Its officials said they have approached the Kuwaiti government over direct banking prospects.
