Thieves Make Off With Entire Teller Machine

Thieves in a hurry for cash went to an automated teller machine, but instead of trying to get money out of it they took the entire machine.

The four-foot-high piece of equipment, which weighs several hundred pounds, disappeared from inside the State of Illinois Center while the building was closed during the weekend.

Police said the machine had been chained to the floor, but the links were cut. Officials said they did not know how much money was in the machine or how the thieves got it out of the locked building.
