Monterey Park : Manager Inquiry Rejected
Mayor Betty Couch and Councilwoman Marie T. Purvis on Monday failed to gain council support in their latest bid to launch an investigation into City Manager Mark Lewis’ hiring and purchasing practices.
Couch and Purvis say Lewis has strayed from city policy when granting raises and buying equipment, and have called for his resignation and an independent investigation. However, the city manager has the support of the other three council members. Lewis maintains he never violated the law and is the target of a petty political vendetta.
On Monday, a cadre of speakers--both for and against the city manager--turned out for a long debate on Lewis’ performance.
