Long Beach : Director of Center for Gays Laid Off as Donations Drop
Megan Ross, director of The Center, Long Beach’s major drop-in facility for gays and lesbians, has been laid off just three months after assuming her new position. In addition, One in Long Beach Inc., which runs the center, has laid off its director of volunteers, Jonathan Lakin.
Administrators said the layoffs were necessary because of an unexpected drop in donations to the nonprofit agency, the largest of its kind in the city.
Ross, who went to work for The Center after being laid off from a similar job in Orange County, was hired after a long period during which the drop-in center operated without a director because of an earlier layoff.
