Redondo Trash Pact Vote Delayed
The Redondo Beach City Council again postponed action on a proposed trash-collection contract with Western Waste Industries after members learned that Councilman Ron Cawdrey’s son, Ron Cawdrey Jr., works for Western Waste.
The disclosure came from Councilman Stevan Colin during Tuesday’s council meeting and after City Atty. Gordon Phillips had determined that Councilman Cawdrey’s acceptance of $1,500 in campaign contributions from Western Waste posed no conflict of interest.
Cawdrey denied that his son’s employment is a problem. “My son’s 35 years old with his own family,” he said.
The council asked the city attorney to research the issue and return with a recommendation April 2.
