Nation IN BRIEF : MARYLAND : No Threat Found in Mercury Fillings

There is no evidence that mercury-laden fillings in teeth pose a health threat to humans, a Food and Drug Adminstration advisory panel concluded at a meeting in Rockville, Md. But the Dental Products Panel said the studies raised questions that warrant more research and recommended that the FDA set up a special group to determine what studies are needed. Past studies have suggested that mercury vapors from fillings are absorbed into the body.
