Being homeless is no laughing matter, but for a mere $6, joke lovers can buy an hour’s worth of laughs today to help homeless families.

Several comedians will try to keep people in stitches for eight continuous hours at the Ice House, the 30-year-old comedy club at 24 N. Mentor Ave. in Pasadena.

The comedy acts are sponsored by the Harmony Project, a grass-roots organization that plans a child-care center for children of the homeless. All proceeds will be donated to the 2-year-old organization, based in Panorama City.

Tickets can be bought at the club by the hour or for all eight hours. Ticket takers will make hourly checks.

Actress Susan Dey of “L.A. Law” will be one of the hosts, said executive producer Ray Costa.

The improvisational Comedy Sportz Troupe will be featured in the first two hours, starting at 4 p.m. About 19 other performers, some in groups, will tell jokes during hourlong shows, starting on the hour, until midnight.

“I wanted to go for 48 hours,” Costa said, “but I couldn’t get the club to commit for two days on the weekend.”

Other comedians to be featured include George Wallace, who was in the films “Punchline” and “Postcards From the Edge”; Tom Wilson, who played Bif in the “Back to the Future” movies, and KNBC-TV Channel 4 wacky weatherman Fritz Coleman.
