For Many, Faith in Scriptures Still Firm

Share

Having just read Dana Parsons’ article about the Jesus seminar, I find it troubling. I would not say that it was his intention, but orthodox Christians again come out looking intellectually inferior to those who have more “rational” philosophies/beliefs.

Maybe Mr. Parsons doesn’t realize it, but our universities continue to graduate individuals educated in the philosophies of our current era who have firm belief in the authenticity of the Christian Scriptures and therefore the faith.

The testimony of a large group of educated men and women is continually ignored in these articles while “Jesus seminars” get lengthy print coverage seeming to substantiate their findings. It tends toward subtly discrediting the Christian religion.

If secular humanism and/or rationalism had indeed provided answers for society’s many ills, I would be forced to concede that maybe Christianity was an outdated way of thinking and Christ an irrelevant figure of history. This not being the case, my faith and my reasons to believe remain as firm as ever.
