Arpino the Judge: The Joffrey Ballet may be about lose its status as a Music Center resident company, but artistic director Gerald Arpino will be in town tonight to help judge the Music Center Spotlight Awards, a 3-year-old event for high school students competing in six categories. Winners will get $5,000 at the end of the evening. Arpino’s co-judges in the ballet category are George de la Pena and Rebecca Wright. Other categories include modern dance, opera, pop/comedy, musical vocal, classical instrumental music and jazz instrumental music.
