Help for Lactose Intolerance

Share

For people who have trouble digesting dairy products because of lactose intolerance, there’s a new remedy called Dairy Ease. The chewable tablet contains the enzyme lactase, which helps convert the milk sugar lactose into two digestible sugars, glucose and galactose, says a company spokesman.

The tablet might be worth a try for people who feel uncomfortable after eating dairy products, says Carol Scroggs, a dietitian at Kaiser Permanente, Los Angeles.

“A lot of adults can’t digest (milk) sugar (easily),” says Scroggs, especially people who fell out of the habit of drinking milk after childhood. Using a tablet like Dairy Ease might also help adults get the calcium they need from food, not supplements, she adds.
