From Staff and Wire Reports

Defensive lineman Bill Pickel of the Raiders was signed as a Plan B free agent Tuesday by the New York Jets.

Pickel, a 6-foot-3, 260-pounder from Rutgers who was a second-round draft choice by the Raiders in 1983, was relegated to a backup role the past two seasons after the Plan B signing of nose tackle Bob Golic.

Pickel was one of the leading pass rushers in the NFL in his early seasons with the Raiders, making several All-Pro teams in 1986 when he had 11 1/2 sacks in 15 games. He led the Raiders with 12 1/2 sacks in 1984 and 1985.

The San Diego Chargers signed defensive back Bobby Humphery, who led the Rams in interceptions during the 1990 season.

Humphery, 29, a nine-year NFL veteran, made 10 starts for the Rams last season. He tied for the team lead with four interceptions, returning one 44 yards for a touchdown.
