Whittier : College Radio Station Will Be Aired on TV Channel 53

Whittier College radio station KWTR can now be heard on local cable television Channel 53, marking the first time the mostly music station has been heard off campus.

"We're the background entertainment," said disc jockey Jon Wray, a junior majoring in business administration. "While it says the Whittier public library is open from 9 to 5, we're the music in the background."

The station can be heard on Channel 53 weekdays 10 a.m. to midnight and Sundays 4 a.m. to midnight. Don't seek the station on the radio dial; it's not there. The student-run operation, started in 1987, is piped into campus buildings. The programming format takes in "everything, from reggae to hard rock," Wray said, including classical music and Broadway music shows.
