The “A’s Bandit” struck for the 17th time Thursday morning, making off with more than $1,000 from a La Jolla bank, San Diego police said.

The robber entered the Home Federal Bank in the 8400 block of Genesee Avenue at 9:45 a.m. and handed a teller a demand note, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.

He wore a lime-colored suit and paisley shirt, and eschewed his trademark baseball cap for a slicked-back hairstyle.

The robber fit the physical description and used the same methods as a serial bank robber that has plagued San Diego banks since mid-February, Robinson said.

The robber is described as white, 5-foot-8 to 6 feet, 150 to 165 pounds, with a thin build and short brown hair. He has a pale complexion and youthful appearance.

The robber is suspected of hitting banks in Ocean Beach, University City and Clairemont, Robinson said.
