Horace W. Magoun; UCLA Anatomy Dept. Chairman
Horace Winchell Magoun, 84, a neuroscience researcher and educator who was founding chairman of the UCLA School of Medicine’s department of anatomy in 1950. Magoun’s specialty involved levels of awareness in the brain and he was considered one of the most significant investigators of the central nervous system for his time. In 1959, he also helped found the Brain Research Institute at UCLA and served as dean of the university’s graduate division from 1962 to 1972. In Santa Monica on March 6.
