Drought Effects
As a flower grower in the North County, it is a painful experience to go through the severe financial losses we are anticipating due to the current water shortage.
Had the City of San Diego, like Northern California, initiated greater conservation measures earlier, it might be possible to alleviate the problems we in the agricultural industry are experiencing today.
The drought is 5 years old. Education of the public has been sorely neglected by those responsible. The lack of direction and decision-making ability by the San Diego City Council is appalling. Water conservation is everybody’s business. I find it particularly aggravating that private individuals such as (Union-Tribune publisher) Helen Copley can in good conscience use 10,000 gallons of water a day while many of us, who do not have such deep pockets, are forced to experience and endure severe financial losses.
