Ford, Mazda Issue Recalls: The two firms each issued a series of recalls Friday affecting 1991 models. The companies said they were recalling about 210,000 Ford Explorers and 9,980 Mazda Navajos to check and add reinforcement, if necessary, to bumper-mounted trailer hitch balls. Both of the sport-utility vehicles are made at Ford’s Louisville assembly plant in Kentucky. Also being recalled are about 24,800 Explorers and 6,424 Navajos for possible replacement of fuel tanks that may have been cut by a heat shield; about 18,000 Explorers to check for potential fuel or fuel-vapor leaks; about 13,400 Lincoln Town Cars to check fuel lines in engine compartments, and about 8,000 Probe GL cars to install two bolts in safety belt brackets.
