Police arrested a man Monday after he allegedly robbed a downtown bank branch.

The suspect, identified as Mark Cruanes, 33, was stopped by patrol officers as he ran from the Grossmont Bank branch at 445 W. Ash St., said Bill Robinson, a spokesman for the San Diego Department.

Robinson said the robber handed a teller a demand note and then escaped.

“This bank immediately dialed 911,” Robinson said. “Officers were able to respond quickly, and the suspect was actually seen leaving the bank.”

He said that during some robberies other banks have either called the FBI or their corporate headquarters before calling police, making it difficult to find the robber.
