Birtcher to Merge into Cabot: Irvine-based Birtcher Medical Systems Inc. said it signed a preliminary agreement to be merged into Cabot Medical Corp. of Langhorne, Pa., in an all-stock transaction. Both companies manufacture and market surgical equipment. The combined entity would be a major player in the relatively new field of laparoscopic surgery, said Daniel A. Whelan, Birtcher’s chief financial officer.
