El Monte : Panel to Consider Fire Study

Share

A citizens’ committee will be formed to consider whether the city should study consolidation with county firefighting services to save money.

Councilwoman Patricia Wallach suggested forming the committee after she failed to win outright support for a study, estimated to cost $5,500.

“I am not against our Fire Department,” Wallach said. “But this council has to make difficult fiscal decisions that won’t go away if we sweep them under the rug.”

At a special meeting Wednesday, the council will determine the makeup of the committee, which will only be able to recommend whether to do a study, City Administrator Gregory D. Korduner said.

Councilmen Jack T. Crippen and Dan Morgan opposed the study and the consolidation.
