Bell : Campaign Is Under Way to Pick Name for School
A campaign is under way to name a new elementary school scheduled to open in Bell in July.
A committee composed of parents and officials from the city and the Los Angeles Unified School District is sponsoring the campaign.
The name will be selected from eight suggestions recently submitted by interested citizens and committee members.
Included in the names are Nueva Esperanza, which means new hope; Nueva Vista, meaning new outlook; Bellwood, because students attend from both Maywood and Bell, and Claude L. Reeves, a former superintendent of Region B, where the school is located.
The school, which will be on a year-round schedule, will serve more than 1,000 students. Under construction at 4412 Randolph St., it is the first school to be built in Bell in 65 years, according to school officials.
