Free Agent Downing Gets a Shot With Texas

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. —
Free agent Brian Downing, longtime outfielder and designated hitter for the Angels, was invited to the Texas Rangers’ training camp Thursday.
The Rangers said Downing will begin working out today.
The 18-year veteran hit .273 with 14 home runs and 51 runs batted in last season. He is the Angels’ all-time leader in games, at-bats, runs, hits, doubles, home runs, RBIs, extra-base hits and total bases.
He has a lifetime .266 average with 248 home runs and 985 RBIs.
