FASHION : Slick City : Combs Are a Slippin’ and a Slidin’ Through Hair in Hollywood
There is a new look in Hollywood hair: dirty.
Almost every leading man at the Oscars on Monday night wore the grease-ball do.
And they all looked as if they had been dunked in cooking oil.
Kevin Costner, Harry Connick Jr., even Martin Scorsese, went the suave and slippery route for a ‘40s glamour image.
“It’s a very, very Hollywood look,” noted Geri Cusenza, who says her grease-back gel, Molding Mud, has been a bestseller among her Sebastian hair-care line since Nicholas Cage and Johnny Depp started using it last year.
Among the roughed-up, macho greasers, Tom Cruise and Andy Garcia set tongues wagging.
But nobody could compete with Michael Jackson, whose slippery tendrils kept sliding into his eyes for a style that seemed hazardous to his health.
Sleek and greasy worked best; Jeremy Irons’ hair didn’t move all night.
Christian Slater had a good cut to go with grease.
“It’s got to be shorter on the sides, longer on top,” explained Umberto, who plans to open a beauty salon for men only in April.
Along with the cut, there is a trick:
Blow-dry the hair, then grease it down. Otherwise, be prepared for Robert De Niro syndrome.
Umberto warned, “Put grease on wet hair and it’ll start flipping out all over.”
