Trans-Alaska Pipeline Operators Faulted: The operators of the 800-mile Trans-Alaska pipeline did not provide adequate quality control to ensure that corrosion testing was performed properly, according to results of an investigation by federal and state agencies. The investigation, responding to allegations that workers falsified corrosion test results on the pipeline, also concluded that some subcontract workers were inexperienced and poorly trained. But the investigation also found that the pipeline was sound and turned up no evidence of illegal alcohol or drug abuse by workers.
