From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Former President Ertha Pascal-Trouillot was transferred from prison to house arrest, a day after being charged with complicity in a failed coup. Prosecutor Anthony Alouidor said Pascal-Trouillot will be confined to her home for the duration of the government investigation into the Jan. 6 coup attempt by followers of the exiled dictator Jean-Claude (Baby Doc) Duvalier. A Ministry of Justice statement said Pascal-Trouillot is being held under guard because of “the gravity of the charges.” The government has not explained why it believes she was involved in the coup attempt.
