COLOMBO, Sri Lanka —
Thirteen Sri Lankan soldiers and at least 50 rebels have died in a three-day battle for a northern naval base, military sources said Friday.
They said fighting had eased between troops and members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam who launched an attack on a naval camp at Karainagar on the Jaffna Peninsula on Monday night.
The Tigers are fighting for a separate state in the north and east for the minority Tamil community.
