Live, from the Forum, it’s Friday night!

The Miami Heat, the little troupe that’s still not quite ready for Prime Time, Showtime, Pacific Standard Time or any other time kept locally except Garbage Time, returned to the venue where it was 0-3 by an average margin of 27 points for its annual pratfall.

Was that Chevy Chase or Rony Seikaly stumbling across the lane?

What could the Heat do for an encore? Try falling behind, 27-6, scoring a franchise-low 12 points in the first quarter and bowing, 108-87, to the Lakers.

The Lakers have won four in a row, but Friday wasn’t one of their explosive games.

The Heat imploded, missing 18 of its first 21 shots, tossing in a few turnovers and making things safe to play everybody on the bench early.

Perhaps they are psyched out in this building?

“Yeah,” Heat Coach Ron Rothstein said. “It’s pretty evident.”

The Heat regrouped, or the Lakers sagged. Miami ran off a 16-0 streak, cutting the lead to 29-24 in the second quarter--it would get no closer--before the Lakers romped off again.

“They played us tough in Miami,” Magic Johnson said. “They beat Boston in Miami. It’s coming. They just have to be patient. There’s nothing you can do when you have a lot of young players. You just have to grow.”

It was not that anyone was expecting a classic Friday.

It was not that anyone got one, either.

Here’s how the Heat began: Missed 20-footer by Sherman Douglas; turnover by Douglas; missed 20-footer by Glen Rice; offensive foul by Seikaly; two missed free throws by Seikaly; missed short jump shot by Seikaly; airball three-pointer by Rice; turnover by Douglas; missed 20-footer by Keith Askins; missed 17-footer by Grant Long; stumble through the lane by Seikaly for a traveling violation.

By now the game was 5:07 old, the Lakers were ahead, 12-0, and the fans were wondering if they were watching the NBA’s first shutout.

With 6:35 left in the quarter, Seikaly broke the spell with a layup.

Unintimidated, the Lakers ran their lead to 27-6.

Johnson played 33 minutes, scored 20 points with nine rebounds and nine assists and was allowed to call it a night early. Larry Drew made a three-point basket as time ran out.

Ask the Heat, this is a tough house.

Lakers Notes

The Big O watch: Magic Johnson, who started the night needing 52 assists to break Oscar Robertson’s league record of 9,887, got nine and needs 43. . . . Vlade Divac had 17 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks, his second double-figure rebound game since March 1. Said Laker Coach Mike Dunleavy: “That’s the way we need him to play, night in, night out.” . . . Said Johnson: “We’ve got to get him going.” . . . Terry Teagle scored 11 points, but his string of 50% shooting nights ended at three. He went four for 10. . . . The game was an announced sellout, 17,505, but many seats were empty. . . . Said Miami Coach Ron Rothstein: “We gave up 13 or 14 second shots in the first quarter. That just tells me we didn’t want to play.”. . . The Heat missed 10 of 13 free throws. . . . Willie Burton, Miami’s starting small forward, missed the game with a sprained ankle.
